About Beacon

A school with a long memory and a long view.

Founded in 1897, Beacon Country Day School has grown from a small neighborhood day school into an independent PK–12 community known for the seriousness of its scholarship and the warmth of its culture.

Mission

Educating the whole child.

Beacon exists to develop curious, capable, and ethical young people. We pursue academic excellence in the company of arts, athletics, and service, and we ask each student to bring their full self to the work of learning together.

We believe that a great school is small enough to know every student and large enough to offer them a world. We hold both tradition and change in careful balance.

Values

Four commitments we make to every student.

Scholarship

We teach students to ask better questions, read more carefully, and follow evidence wherever it leads.

Character

Honesty, kindness, humility, and courage are not add-ons at Beacon — they are how we do our work.

Belonging

Every student deserves to feel known. Advisory, small classes, and traditions make that possible.

Stewardship

Of place, of community, and of one another — we take good care of what we have been given.
